Senior pets do better at home
Old age is when vet care matters most and travels worst. Stiff hips, failing sight, carrier dread: for senior dogs and cats, the vet coming to them isn't a luxury; it's often the difference between healthcare happening and not.

What a senior home check covers
The same ground as a clinic senior exam (heart, lungs, joints, teeth, weight, lumps), plus something the clinic can't offer: your pet moving naturally in their own space. A vet watching an old dog rise from his actual bed, or an old cat decline her usual windowsill jump, learns more about arthritis in two minutes than any consult-room exam. Blood and urine samples for the classic senior panels (kidneys, thyroid, liver) are taken at home and run at the lab.
The conditions of old age, managed at home
Arthritis reviews and modern pain-relief plans; kidney and thyroid monitoring with repeat home blood tests; heart checks; weight and diet plans; senior cognition changes (dementia in dogs has its own guide). Every one is medication-and-monitoring medicine, exactly the work that suits a house call, on a pet relaxed enough to examine properly.
Want a vet to come to you?
Tell us where you are and what you need. We'll match you with a home visit vet who covers your area and email you their introduction. Reply to it and they'll call you. No obligation.
Twice a year beats once
Vets recommend six-monthly checks from about age seven (sooner for giant breeds) because age-related disease moves fast: a year is a long time in a 14-year-old body. Caught early, kidney disease and arthritis have years of good management in them; caught late, months.
When senior care becomes comfort care
The same home vet who does the senior checks can carry your pet into palliative care when the time comes, a continuity that means the vet at the end knew your pet at their best. If you're already wondering about that road, the is-it-time guide is written for exactly the wondering stage.
Common questions
Is a home senior check more expensive?
The usual home-visit premium applies: roughly $40 to $100 over a clinic consult, less per pet for multi-pet households. Senior panels (bloods, urine) cost the same as at a clinic.
My old dog can't manage the car at all any more. Is that common?
Extremely. It's one of the top three reasons people first book a mobile vet. No lifting, no car, no waiting room is the whole point.
Book the check they'd choose
Tell us your suburb and a home-visit vet will call. Mention it's a senior check and they'll allow the longer visit it deserves.
